Supporting our communities: introducing our new volunteering policy

At Operose Health, we know that delivering great primary care goes beyond what happens in the consultation room. It’s about the role we play in supporting the communities around us; helping people feel connected, reducing inequalities, and contributing to better overall wellbeing.

That’s why we’re proud to introduce our new volunteering policy, designed to support colleagues in giving their time and skills to causes that matter.

Volunteering can take many forms. Whether it’s spending time at a local care home, supporting a food bank, helping out in schools or community groups, or getting involved in health and wellbeing initiatives, these activities make a real difference. They also offer colleagues the opportunity to build new skills, strengthen relationships and connect more deeply with the communities we serve.

Our approach is grounded in our purpose, to improve access, outcomes and patient experience and reflects the values that guide us every day

  • Caring
  • Ambitious
  • Resourceful
  • Excellence

Volunteering is one of the ways these values come to life in a practical and meaningful way.

Colleagues are encouraged to support organisations and initiatives within the areas where we provide services. This helps ensure that our efforts are focused where they can have the greatest local impact.

As Paul Rushton, our Director of People and Culture explains:

Volunteering is an important part of how we support our colleagues to feel connected; to their communities, to each other, and to our purpose. It’s not only about giving back, but about personal growth, wellbeing and building a stronger sense of belonging. We’re proud to be creating more opportunities for colleagues to get involved in ways that are meaningful to them.”

Ultimately, this policy is about creating more opportunities for colleagues to make a positive difference, both for others and for themselves. By supporting volunteering, we’re continuing to build stronger connections with our communities and taking another step towards improving health and wellbeing beyond our services.
