Our research division plays a pivotal role in driving innovation and improving outcomes across primary care at scale. While most NHS research activity remains centred on secondary care, we are focused on embedding research within primary care, the front door of the NHS, where most patient interactions occur and where the broadest range of clinical need is seen. By doing so, we generate evidence that is more representative, inclusive, and reflective of real patient experience.
As a trusted NHS research partner, we leverage our national scale, local presence, and strong relationships with PCNs and integrated neighbourhood teams. This enables us to deliver research that is firmly rooted in the realities of people’s lives and communities, ensuring studies are practical, relevant, and capable of directly influencing clinical practice. Through this infrastructure, we support improvements in medicines, care pathways, and outcomes, helping shape a more responsive and patient-centred health system.
Across 2024/25, we supported a substantial portfolio of research studies and clinical projects, including clinical trials and real-world evidence programmes. Our research operations fully align with NHS and UK Government research policy, and all activity adheres to required safeguards and derogations under UK GDPR.
We are proud to collaborate with NHS organisations, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders to advance research that strengthens patient care today and builds a more sustainable healthcare system for the future.
