Operose Health Reappointed to Deliver GP Hub Services in Croydon

Croydon, June 2025

Operose Health is pleased to announce that it has been successfully re-awarded the contract to provide Hub Services in Croydon.

This reappointment underscores our continued commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible, primary care hub services to the population of Croydon. As well as our commitment to collaboration with the local health partners, to provide additional capacity for general practice and support to ensure patients that can be seen and treated in a primary care setting.

The service supports Croydon’s urgent and emergency care plans by improving access to primary care services and enhancing coordination with local partners, with the aim of reducing unnecessary hospital attendances. Patients will benefit from a seamless care experience at three operational hubs, Parkway Health Centre, Purley War Memorial Hospital, and Croydon University Hospital

Improving Access and Reducing Pressure on Emergency Departments

The hubs will operate seven days a week, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Parkway and Purley Hubs, and until 10:00 PM at Croydon University Hospital Hub.

The Hubs will provide both urgent and pre-booked appointments, with the majority of patients being booked appointments from NHS 111, encouraging patients to “phone before you go”, so patients are directed to the most appropriate service and location for their needs.

The service will provide rapid clinical assessment and treatment, support better planned care, and proactively guide patients to the most appropriate service for ongoing support - be it their own GP, pharmacy, community services, or social care.

The service will also have access to diagnostic testing including microbiology, pregnancy tests, urine culture and will be able to order x-rays and blood test for patients to further enhance access and outcomes.

Professor Henk Parmentier, Clinical Lead at Operose Health, said:

"We are proud to continue delivering this vital service for the people of Croydon. Over our tenure, we’ve demonstrated the real value of GP hubs - improving outcomes, supporting primary care and reducing unnecessary visits to A&E. This new contract allows us to build on that success and strengthen our collaboration with partners across the borough. Our focus remains on timely, compassionate care that puts the patient first.”

Proven Track Record of Performance

In the previous contract period, Operose Health have delivered measurable improvements in urgent care access and system efficiency, including:

  • Over 85,000 patient appointments delivered across the three sites.
  • 97% patient satisfaction rate based on follow-up surveys.
  • A 17% reduction in non-urgent A&E attendances linked to primary care-sensitive conditions.
  • Over 1,200 patients newly registered with GPs following support at urgent care hubs.
  • Effective diversion of patients to community services, pharmacy, and mental health support—freeing up capacity in acute settings.

Committed to Collaborative, Whole-System Care

The re-awarded service will continue to work closely with Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, the London Borough of Croydon, and other community and voluntary sector partners. Together, the focus is on delivering high-impact, locally tailored urgent care that aligns with system-wide goals.
