VE Day - 80th Anniversary 2025

Proud to Be Recognised as a Veterans Accredited GP Practice

The 8th May 2025 is the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day).

This VE Day, we are proud to announce five more of our GP practices that have most recently been officially accredited as Veterans Accredited GP Practices. This demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, personalised care to former members of the UK Armed Forces and their families.

  • Carpenters Practice, London
  • Kingshurst Medical Centre, Birmingham
  • Old Hill Medical Centre, Birmingham
  • Queens Road Medical Centre, London
  • Silver Lock Medical Centre, London

The accreditation, part of the NHS’s Armed Forces Covenant and the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Veteran Friendly Accreditation scheme, recognises GP practices that go the extra mile to understand and support the specific health needs of military veterans. This includes enhanced awareness of physical, emotional, and psychological issues linked to military service, such as PTSD, musculoskeletal conditions, and the transition to civilian life.

We are committed to helping the veteran community and their families. Our goal is for all of Operose Health's GP practices to become accredited, and we're making great progress toward meeting our goal.

Dr. Paul Hughes, National Medical Director and Royal Navy Veteran, said:

“We are honoured to support the veteran community and are committed to ensuring they receive the care, respect, and understanding they deserve. Becoming a Veterans Accredited GP Practice reflects our dedication to offering informed, sensitive, and tailored healthcare for those who have served.”

By holding this accreditation, our practices ensure that colleagues are trained to identify veteran patients, understand their unique experiences, and refer them to appropriate veteran-specific services when needed.

This initiative strengthens the NHS’s pledge to uphold the Armed Forces Covenant, ensuring that veterans face no disadvantage in accessing healthcare and that special consideration is given to those who have sacrificed the most.

Veterans registered with the practice are encouraged to inform their GP of their service history and benefit from the additional support available to them.
